The Why, How and Where of Submitting Articles on the Web

One of the very best ways to get traffic to your site is by submitting articles you have written to various places on the internet.

WHY

1. Branding

The more your web site or name is seen, the more you are remembered. The better your article is, the easier and the more desirable it will be for websites to publish your article on their site or put it in their ezines. Produce a quality, well designed, error free article and this reflects well upon your business.

2. Lead Generation

If your article really interests readers, they will want to see your web site or join your ezine. Be sure to include your contact information and link to your website in the resource/signature box (the bio information at the bottom of the article that has a little bit of information about yourself and how to contact you). You establish yourself as an expert in your field, and this will lead to new clients and sales.

3. Promotion

As you may know, links make a large contribution to your search engine rankings. Readers may add your url to their own website, thus increasing the number of links back to your website (called back linking). Back links refer to links back to your website without you linking to their site. The more back links you have, the higher your rankings in the search engines. Also, make sure that there are some major key words in your article AND particularly in the heading. This will help readers to find your article directly from browser searches.

Promote your published articles in your own marketing materials. e.g. "originally published on website name". This gives you more credibility.

4. Information

The prime reason why people surf the internet is to look for information. Research your market and address their needs in your article. One way to learn what people are searching for is to visit forums and look at the questions people are asking, what they are searching for and most importantly, how you can answer them in your article.

5. Strategy

Make sure that you have a catchy and memorable headline, full of keywords and that is compelling to open. When a surfer looks at a list of articles, is it the headline and short summary that will catch their eye.

Article Writing Tips: 

• There may be different requirements on the length of the article, the title and your biographical/contact information depending on where you submit it.
• There may be limitations on the number of links you can have within your article and that they may not be blatantly self-promotional.
• Your article should be free of grammatical and spelling errors.
• Your article should not read like an ad. Use your resource/signature box, not the body of your article, to promote your business or website.
• Your article should stand on its own, i.e. it should not require the reader to click on a link to get to the main content.
• Avoid too much hype in your resource box. The purpose of the resource box is to lead them to your website which does the actual selling.
